
Smith, Chester “Chet” Lee, age 77, of Martinsburg, Ohio, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born August 26, 1934 in Union Furnace, Ohio, he is preceded in death by his parents, Chester V. and Ruth W. (Primmer) Smith. He graduated from Dublin High School in 1952 and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve and retired as Chief Petty Officer. Always a hard worker, he worked for Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies for 27 years. A self-proclaimed “master gardener,” he was dedicated to his farm in Martinsburg . Chet enjoyed his summer visits at their cabin in Lincolnville Center (Norton’s Pond), Maine. He treasured his relationship with his family and is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Gail A. (Howe) Smith, brother Marion “Mick” Smith, brother-in-law Walter K. (Laura) Howe, children Thomas (Shawn) Smith; Timothy (Paula) Smith; Teresa (James) Jones; Tracy “Cecil” (Anna) Smith; Jeffrey (Krisan)Smith; honorary son- Doug Helton; grandchildren Timothy (Kelli) Smith; Jacob Smith; Jerod (Alyssa) Smith; Alicia Smith, Nicole Jones, Jenna Smith, Hayley Jones, Alexander, Audrey, Claire and Frances Smith; Lacey (Dale) Kirby; Riely (Katy) Thompson; and eight great-grandchildren, 6 nieces and 2 nephews, special neighborhood friend Bob (Sue) Stewart, many friends and his breakfast buddies. Arrangements are entrusted to Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home- Johnstown. Memorial service to be held Thursday, April 5 at 10:30 a.m. at Martinsburg Church of Christ 126 E.
