Freda Mae (Henderson) Russell (98) passed away on April 28, 2024. She was born on January 9, 1926 in Morgan County, daughter of Hiram and Bernice (Rex) Henderson. She is preceded in death by her parents, son George C. Russell, Jr., grandson Troy Russell, and sister Hope Clark.
Freda graduated from Manchester High School in 1943 and continued her education at Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Zanesville, Ohio earning her RN Certificate. She had to wait until turning 21 years old to take her state boards. Part of her nursing training was spent in the US Army Cadet Nurse Corps. during World War II. After moving to Euclid, Ohio, she operated a small nursing home for 25 years and worked for Laurelwood Hospital as an Assistant Director of Nursing until retiring in 1997.
Freda will be missed by her daughter Vicki (Tom) Wright of Johnstown, grandchildren Michael (Amy) Barnhart of Reynoldsburg, Heather (Dan) Kerber of Pataskala, Sarah Di-Nardo of Reynoldsburg, Jason (Stacy) Russell of Indianapolis, her beloved great-grandchildren Justin, Kyle, Kara, Abbigail, Garrett, Ashleigh, Cynthia, George, and Troy Jr., and one great-great-granddaughter Addilyn. She will also be missed by her brother Edward (Marianne) Henderson of Zanesville and sister Kaye Shook of Columbus.
Freda loved quilting and made a quilt for each member of her family. When she wasn’t quilting, she was knitting slippers and spending time with family and friends.
