Conrad was a proud veteran, having served with honor in the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal from September 13, 1961, to January 12, 1966. He embodied the values of courage, sacrifice, and
dedication that defined his service to his country. During his time in the Marines, he specialized in Supply/Administration, earning the Good Conduct Medal (2nd award) and the Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal. He also completed training as a Postal Clerk, which may have influenced
his career path after his service.
Born to McKinley Reid and Armatine Whiting Reid on January 3rd, 1943, in New York City, Conrad was one of ten children in a large, close-knit family. Growing up in Harlem, NY, he was known for his strong work ethic, unwavering faith, and profound love for his family. These qualities were with him throughout his life and became the foundation upon which he built his legacy. A devout Baptist, Conrad was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in McDonough, GA, where he served as a deacon and found solace,
strength, and a deep sense of community. His faith was his guiding light, and he devoted countless hours to service and helping others, including volunteering his time at Piedmont Henry Hospital.
Conrad was a man of many passions, including traveling, reading, relishing a rousing game of cards, and collecting art that celebrated the African Diaspora, particularly his cherished Thomas Blackshear
sculptures. As a father, Conrad instilled in his children the importance of faith, family, and perseverance. He is survived by his children from his first marriage to the late Selina Stinson, Conrad Victor Reid Jr. (Mamie) and their children Anesia R. Daniels and Conrad Victor Reid III; Leonard F. Reid; Trinetta C. Jimerson (Dexter Sr.); and Varditra B. Reid. He is also survived by his stepson, Shaunn Wyche (Malika) and their children, Ryan Bernard Wyche, Adrienne Margaret Wyche and Dominique McDuffie;
and a host of nieces and nephews who he treasured, all of whom were the pride of his life.
Conrad was preceded in death by his son, David J. Reid (2008); his beloved wife, Adrienne (December 2009); his parents, McKinley and Armatine; and his siblings, McKinley Reid Jr., Stanley Reid, Harold Reid, Elfreda Wyche, Clyde Reid, Donald Reid, Joseph Reid, June Wyche and Carly Reid, and their spouses.
His legacy of love, sacrifice and dedication will live on through the generations he nurtured. Though he is no longer physically with us, Conrad’s spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. His example of faith, devotion and service will continue to inspire us for generations to come.
