Janette Royston

Laura Janette Carruth Royston, known as “Jet”, was born August 18, 1926 and died January 23, 2012. She was the daughter of James Elmer and Gertrude Carruth, of Dallas, Georgia. Her identical twin sister is Gee (Geneva) Blevins, of Lithia Springs, GA. Their elder brother, Allman Carruth, and younger sister, Marcelle Schreiber are deceased. She was married to Hillyer Moxley Royston and made their home in Jonesboro, GA for 56 years. Jet Royston was a strong provider for the health and welfare of her extended families and community. She was a strong supporter of the construction of Jonesboro Presbyterian Church. She served as Cub Scout den leader for a generation of boys in the church and in the Jonesboro and Morrow communities. They were all pleased when she enlisted the professional entertainment talents of her husband’s cousin, Wendell Watterson, who also had a scout in her troop. Mr. and Mrs. Royston built their home from the ground up, in the days before there was self-help available. The local lumber company supplied help for sourcing the materials. The community closely watched their progress, and cheered them on. Always known as a great baker and cook, she supplied food in all times of need and celebration. She also served her families and friends at her gracious table with joy. As a Room Mother for the local schools, she participated in every type of fund raising, including bake sales. She also was a wonderful seamstress, and fashioned wedding dresses, prom dresses, skating competition outfits, school play costumes, and school classroom curtains, for her friends and family. Mrs. Royston was a major caregiver for all her family, friends, and pets. She cared for her mother-in-law, Mrs. Nannie Royston, in her home, for over 13 years. And, she was a major player in the early years of raising two of her grandsons. She worked for Life of Georgia, Southern Bell and The Clayton County Library, in Jonesboro, GA. In later years, Mrs. Royston enjoyed her grandchildren and family; gardening, camping with the Good Sam Club; and planning and building two more homes for their children. During the last ten years of her life, she lived in Decatur, where she moved to be close to her husband’s health care facility and enjoyed the friendship of her new friends. She leaves behind her son and his family, H. Michael (Mick) and Genny Royston, Keith, Holly and Grant (great grandson), Michael and Katie; her daughter and family: Laura and Bill Wall, Janette and Savannah; and her younger son and his family: James and Judy (deceased) Royston, Jay Royston, Amber Hearing, Nikki Bannister and Kaitlynn Thornton (great granddaughter).
