Mary Allie Spradley, native of Atlanta, GA, passed away peacefully at home on September 23, 2021, at the age of 73 in Sheridan, Arkansas. Mary was the oldest daughter of four children of the late Frank and Lois Reagin. She worked as a seamstress for several years but spent most of her life as a home maker. Her cooking was envied by almost everyone. No one could resist her country fried steak.
Mary loved Bingo and would travel an hour each way twice a week to play. Her luck is a legend in the family, with each grandchild hoping they inherited Grandma Spradley’s good fortune. She loved Bingo, but it was the friendships that were created there that kept her going back. Many of her friendships lasted twenty or more years and across multiple states.
A loving mother who often sewed handmade Halloween costumes and made homemade birthday cakes, Mary never boasted about her accomplishments. In fact, most people would say she was modest and often shy. But once she became comfortable with someone, her sense of humor shone through. Her devotion to her family was evident in her actions, such as staying up late at night to put foam rollers in her daughters’ hair so they would look nice for church on Sunday morning and attending parades on every holiday to see her girls ride on a float or march with a school group. She would also drive for hours to visit her sisters and brother to attend a barbecue or family celebration.
One of Mary’s dreams was to buy a tour bus and have her grandson Brandon drive her around the country. She loved traveling, country music, and dancing. She and her friends attended concerts to see Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard, T.G. Shepherd, and many others.
Although Mary was not religious about attending church, she was proud of the fact that she accepted Christ as her savior when she was in her twenties. Mary is survived by two daughters: Millisa (Joel) Gonzalez of Pineview, Georgia; and Linda (Mark) Carden of Sheridan, Arkansas; nine grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a brother, Eddie (Jane) Reagin of McDonough, GA, and two sisters; Delores Brown of Forest Park, GA, and Pat (Wayne) Redding of Jacksonville, FL, along with many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family, but also by her furry family, especially a broken-hearted chihuahua-weenie dog named Lola.
In leu of flowers, donations may be made to All 4 Paws animal shelter in Grove Hill, AL, or to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be held at Tara Garden Chapel, 681 North Ave, Jonesboro, GA 30236, on Saturday, October 2, from 3-5pm with graveside service immediately after at Jonesboro City Cemetery.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.taragardenchapelfuneralhome.com for the Spradley family.
