Patrick Joseph McDermott

In loving memory of our amazing and charismatic father, Patrick Joseph McDermott who passed away peacefully Friday June 1, 2012. He was a devoted and loving husband for more than 62 years to Barbara Coyle McDermott and a patient and caring father of seven daughters, Michelle Dunham, Barbara Haskell, Patricia Lazenski, Mary McDermott, Melanie Antos, Allison Parra and Jennifer DiSanto. Patrick was a hero to his 22 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren serving as both an inspiration and a role model for his love of God and family.

He was born December 20, 1929 in Syracuse, New York to Alice (Resch) and Bernard McDermott and was the 3rd son of seven children. He is survived by his wife Barbara, his seven daughters, his grandchildren and great grandchildren and his siblings: June Cecil, Alice Costello, Jack McDermott, Bernard McDermott and Marilyn Sheatz.

Patrick was a man of strength and integrity with an extraordinary amount of compassion for people and an undying commitment to make the world a better and more loving place. He served as a volunteer and leader for many years with Kairos, St Vincent de Paul and numerous shelters for the homeless.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 4, 2012 at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, 591 Flint River Road, Jonesboro, GA 30238. The family asks that donations be made to St Vincent de Paul Society in Patrick’s name in lieu of flowers.
