Albert Mike DeMaio Jr, 76, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away peacefully on the 27th of February 2022, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Albert (aka Al) grew up in Ashtabula, Ohio, but lived the majority of his life in Palm Beach, Florida. He worked for Imagine Exhibitions for the last 8 years as an engineer for the Bodies Experience located in Bally’s Las Vegas.
Al was an entrepreneur, inventor and enjoyed doing handy work and playing golf in his younger years. He was a 3 time cancer survivor. Back in 1991, he had stomach cancer that would lead him to be in the medical books for one of the first full gastric bypass surgeries- total removal of the stomach done by a team of doctors at the University of Miami. His life expectancy was estimated to be 10 years! In 2008, he was diagnosed with esophageal, tonsil and throat cancer. The doctors told him they could not promise he’d not lose his voice box and half his jaw, but because of his faith and saying his rosaries with the radiology tech, he cleared with what his team of doctors described as “a miracle”. Then in 2020, he was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma on the lung. His body was too frail to have any treatment, so they did a trial for a new pill that slows the growth of the cancer on the lung. The treatment was successful- no further growth on the lung. Unfortunately, back in the late Spring of 2021, Al’s flap in his throat stopped working. This prevented him from being able to eat solid foods. His medical doctors explained this was caused by the years of treatments his body endured. Yet with everything he went through medically, he never gave up on life! His work ethic and faith were unmatched! His family was undeniably his world- his wife, his kids, and his grandchild- he loved them all unconditionally! To know Al, to know his story, he is a hero and loved by so many! He will be dearly missed and always remembered. Our family has set up a foundation- The Albert Mike DeMaio Jr Cancer Foundation. In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to his foundation so we can share his legacy with other cancer patients in hopes of creating other cancer surviving heroes just like him!
Albert Mike DeMaio Jr was predeceased by his mother Treasa DeMaio and father Albert Michael DeMaio Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Sarah Ann DeMaio, his “lovely” daughter Alecia M. DeMaio-York, son-in-law Christian Alston York, and his grandson Christian Austin York; His first born son Andrew Michael DeMaio with fiance Megan Thayer and his son
Albert Joseph DeMaio. Our family has requested a celebration of life be held in his honor as opposed to traditional funeral services. We request all of Al’s friends and loved ones to join us in celebrating his beautiful life at Riverside Memorial Park - Faith Heritage Mausoleum on the 16th of March 2022 at 11:00am.
In honor of his service in the Army and his love for God and Country, TAPS will be performed.
