

Anthony Stephen Alfieri was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Anthony will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Anthony was born on May 2, 1931 at his parents home in Astoria, New York. He was the son of Stephen and Florence Alfieri. Anthony grew up in Astoria.
Anthony was raised with three siblings. He had two older sisters, Marie and Anna and one younger brother Vincent. Anthony was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
As a young boy, Anthony had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. Anthony was an active child who took part in street hockey. Anthony's memorable achievements included being an honors student. However, to Anthony, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends.
A typical teenager, Anthony had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He graduated from Long Island City High School in 1949. He enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers. His favorite classes in high school were math and science. The teacher he enjoyed learning from the most was Mrs. Ajosa.
Anthony enjoyed his college years, which may have been a challenge with all of the academics, responsibilities, and the sudden freedom that accompanied them, but Anthony was able to manage the balancing act. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Fordham University. He also pursued graduate school, earning his Masters of Business Administration at St. Peter's College. His favorite professor was Dr. Taylor. Anthony was Treasurer of his class and Air Force ROTC.
Always considered a “good” friend to those he knew, Anthony enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. While growing up, some of his best friends were the DeStefano Twins and Paul Von Drack. Later in life, he became friends with Mike Dilonardo and Rene Lagasi.
On May 4, 1958 Anthony exchanged wedding vows with Doris Diaz at Our Lady of Mount Carmel of Astoria, New York. Empathic and loyal, Anthony was committed to making his new family happy.
Anthony worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Anthony was blessed with two children, two sons, Stephen Joseph and Anthony John.
Fortunately, Anthony enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Anthony worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was in Retail Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sales. He was employed for 29 years by Eli Lilly and Company. Anthony always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Anthony was an Army Veteran. He trained at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Through his hard work, he achieved the rank of Private First Class. His fellow soldiers viewed him as a brother in arms and knew that he was as much a part of their family as their loved ones back home.
Anthony enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were golf, reading and travel. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Anthony found pleasure in sports. In high school, Anthony played street hockey. Anth ony was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. Tops on his list were golf and tennis.
Throughout his life, Anthony was a doer and was always actively involved in professional and community organizations. Throughout his later years, Anthony was an active member of the Lions Club and Fordham Alumni Club of Palm Beach.
Anthony’s faith was important to him. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Jupiter, Florida. During that time, he was Usher at the 11 am Sunday Mass.
Though he never set out to gain individual recognition, Anthony was given accolades for his many and varied accomplishments throughout his life. Some of his most prestigious awards included Top District Manager nationally for Eli Lilly and Company.
Anthony enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included a trip to Italy.
Anthony was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of his favorites was Duchess, a German Shepherd Collie mix. They were best friends for 15 years.
When Anthony’s retirement finally arrived in 1994, he was well prepared. In retirement, he found new pleasure in playing more golf, gardening, and being active at St. Peter Catholic Church. Even in retirement, Anthony continued to stay in touch with his old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. Anthony was active in his new community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered him.
Anthony passed away on October 3, 2014 at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. Anthony fought a brave battle against cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Doris; his sons Stephen and Anthony, his granddaughter Audrey and his older sister Marie. Services were held at St. Peter Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 7th at 10:00 am. Anthony was laid to rest in Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale, New York. Simply stated, Anthony was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Anthony leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Anthony Stephen Alfieri.
