Arthur Cox was born in Hackensack, New Jersey to Frederick William Cox and Margret Elizabeth (Elsie) Eggie. He graduated from high school in Maywood, New Jersey. He continued his education at the Georgia Institute of Technology and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering and went on to obtain a Master of Science in Metallurgy. In December 1962, he married Patricia Rhoads in Atlanta.
His working career began with a six week job at Armco Steel in Ashland, Kentucky. They allowed him to fulfill his military obligation to the United States Army, in the hope that he would return to Armco. Arthur became a teacher at the Chemical School at Fort McClelland in Anniston, Alabama. At the end of two years Arthur had several choices -- stay for another two years in Alabama, return to Kentucky, or apply for a position with a company where his education would help create advances in metal technology. He selected Pratt & Whitney in Palm Beach County, Florida. His career of 31 years with Pratt was highlighted with many achievements including the prestigious George Mead Medal from United Technologies, several patents, and opportunities for world-wide travel and establishing new ventures. One of these ventures was the Paton-Pratt Whitney facility in Kiev, Ukraine. This venture led Art and his wife to establish The Rocking Horse Fund to give aid to a children’s hospital in Kiev. When the children’s hospital was incorporated into a newer and more modern facility and no longer needed our assistance he brought it back to help children in this area and changed the name to The Rocking Horse Foundation, Inc.
Arthur was also an avid sportsman. Golf, tennis, racquetball. swimming, diving, and fishing. In the late 1980’s he, his wife, and brother made two trips to fish and dive the Great Barrier Reef. When he retired in 1996, he took up tournament fishing – mostly in local waters but also the Black & Blue tournament in Cabo San Lucas, the Baha. In 1999 he purchased a boat yard in Port Salerno, Florida.
Arthur is survived by his wife Patricia, sister-in-law Paula Cox and niece Margaret Robertson in North Carolina, and niece Joann Doyle in Port Salerno, Florida.
