Elaine Santos (Pereira) peacefully left us on April 20, 2024 at age 82. Elaine was born in Newark, New Jersey. She lived most of her life in Union and Belle Mead, New Jersey before retiring with her husband Jack to Hobe Sound, Florida where they could be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Elaine graduated from Union High School in 1959 and got her first job as a secretary at Tessler & Weiss. She worked there with her best friend Patricia Orlatti. She also worked at Maplecrest Battery, Johnson Controls and Sander Mechanical.
Elaine loved the beach. She loved sea glass, seashells and opals. Her favorite color was green. Her favorite author was Nora Roberts and she loved to curl up with a good book. She spent her retirement in Hobe Sound, Florida with her beloved husband, family and friends. Elaine loved thrift stores and the Flea Market. She loved entertaining and her home was a frequent spot for cocktail and dinner parties. Family holidays were filled with great food and lots of laughs! Elaine also belonged to a local Portuguese club that brought many good friends into her life.
Elaine’s hobbies throughout her life included walking on the beach collecting shells and sea glass, reading, drawing, painting, embroidery, sewing, baking and cooking. She also loved her soap opera, The Young & The Restless. She loved dancing the Mambo, Cha-Cha and Merengue and especially dancing with her husband Jack in their own unique style. Elaine had a very green thumb and she loved growing orchids and always had plants around her home.
Elaine will be remembered for being a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, cousin, grandmother, great-grandmother, dog mom and friend.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda deFreitas (David); her son, Jack Santos (Carolyn); her grandchildren, Jaszmin deFreitas (Tony), Jessica deFreitas, Nicole Kelly (Tom), Jonathan Santos (Isabel), Jennifer deFreitas (Lucas) and great-grandchildren, Victor DiMasi, Noah Santos, Nolan Santos, and Abigail Kelly.
Elaine's grace, kindness, and loving spirit touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving a legacy of warmth and compassion that will be felt everywhere.
To honor Elaine’s memory, we are holding a Celebration of Life to be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at her son’s home at 18456 127th Drive N., Jupiter, Florida. All who knew Elaine are invited to join us as we celebrate her remarkable life.
