George R. Andre, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, passed away peacefully in the care of Hospice on April 28, 2026. A man of quiet strength, George lived a life defined by service, discipline, and love for the game of golf.
Born on December 31, 1937, in the Bronx, New York, to George and Margaret Andre, he grew up with a spirit of adventure that would define his remarkable journey. When the family relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, a seven-year-old George discovered golf — a passion that would become the defining thread of his life for decades to come.
George completed his high school and college education at the Oklahoma Military Academy, after which he served in the Army Reserve through the six-month program. Drawn to the skies, he went on to attend Executive Flight School, and in 1966 began his distinguished aviation career with Allegheny Airlines, based in Washington, D.C. Over 25 years, he rose to the rank of Captain with US Airways.
In retirement, George devoted himself wholeheartedly to golf — not simply as a player, but as a steward of the game. For 20 years he competed, officiated, and contributed to the Florida State Golf Association, with a special dedication to Junior Golf programs that helped shape the next generation of players. His contributions to the sport were recognized with his induction into the Palm Beach County Golf Hall of Fame. A testament to his skill and longevity, George competed as an amateur in the 1988 and 1996 Senior Opens.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Phyllis; his children, Douglas and Lorraine; his grandchildren, Ashley and Tyler; his brother; and many nieces and nephews.
