

Irene Sommer Jones, age 64, was born in Barberton, OH. She died peacefully at home on November 22, 2016 surrounded by her family. A resident of Palm Beach Gardens, FL since 1983, she was married to R. Marshall Jones for 37 years. Irene gifted people with her open mind and open heart, engaging people of all ages and walks of life. She was a fierce champion of the underdog, both personally and broadly. She was actively involved in numerous charities. She embraced the philosophy “lift where you stand.” In her work career, Irene was a teacher, guidance counselor, director of Junior Achievement SE Ohio, and the first Executive Director for the Education Foundation of PBC. Irene is survived by her husband, Marshall, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; daughter, Kyle Michelle Jones of Greenacres, FL; mother, Lois (Art) Sommer Spafford of Novi, MI; brother Roger (Kym) Sommer of Greensboro, NC; sister, Jill Tiburzio of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; sister-in-law Peg (John) Kissel of Columbus, OH; nieces and nephews, Emily, Jimmie, Andrew, Ryan, and Kirsten. She is preceded in death by her father, Fred Sommer and birthmother, Alice Kleckner. On Wednesday, Nov 23rd and Friday, Nov 25th, Marshall and Kyle will welcome friends to the home in Mirasol from 6pm to 8pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held on December 3rd at 10am at Mirasol Country Club followed by a reception at their home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Sari Center & Palm Beach Cancer Institute Foundation at 3401 PGA Blvd. #200, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410.
