James Joseph Zanowic Sr.

James proudly served in the United States Coast Guard from 1951 to 1954. After his service, he founded Zanowic’s Sunoco, with locations in North Plainfield, Fanwood, Brielle, Lakewood and Wall, New Jersey. Through dedication and hard work, he successfully operated the business for more than 50 years.

He was a member of the American Legion and an avid golfer, holding memberships at Greenbrier Golf Club, Cypress Links Golf Course, and Hobe Sound Golf Course. James proudly recorded eight hole-in-ones during his golfing years. He was also an avid fisherman who enjoyed time on the water.

James was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Margaret Zanowic, and his sons, Tommy Zanowic and Michael Zanowic (Lynne), Sister Jeanne TenHoopen and Brothers William and Paul.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Maryann Zanowic; his daughter Susan Setrin (Jeff); his sons James J. Zanowic Jr. (Cindy) and Peter Zanowic (Mary); ten grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

James will be remembered for his gentle demeanor, love of family, and quick wit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
