Jean loved her family, her friends, and helping others. She spent her early life in New Hampshire, and started her family there. In 1980, she moved with her daughters to Florida because she was “sick of shoveling.”
Jean worked much of her career in the cable industry, where she began as a secretary and rose to become a regional general manager. This brought her to Elizabeth City, NC where she later launched a second career as a successful real estate agent, and served the city for many terms as a councilwoman. She became an integral part of the life of Elizabeth City, volunteering with numerous organizations including ECHNA (Elizabeth City Historic Neighborhood Association), Arts of the Albemarle, the Elizabeth City Board of Realtors, Encore Theatre Company, NC Potato Festival, and with her church, Holy Family Catholic Church. Jean chaired ECHNA for many years and the annual Ghostwalk was her pride and joy. She loved her life in Elizabeth City, but eventually returned to Florida to be closer to family.
In her spare time, she loved being with her daughters and grandchildren as much as possible, crafting with friends in her “stitch and bitch” group, baking, and trying to make her world a better place, starting with her city. She hosted an annual Christmas open house that was always the party of the year! She formed lifelong, loyal friendships across her many home cities in Laconia, Jupiter, and Elizabeth City, and maintained those relationships faithfully for decades.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (Peter) and Colleen (Dave); her grandchildren, Maura, Jackson, and Danny; her brother, Jim (Kathy), her sisters, Marcia and Ginger (Bill); her former husband, Frank Haley, and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank Baker, her brother Tom, and her beloved maltipoo, Bandit.
