Joseph J. Scirrotto

7 mars , 19238 janvier , 2020

Joseph J. Scirrotto of Tequesta, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 8, 2020, at the age of 96. Joe was born in 1923 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was one of 8 children of Dominick and Emilia Scirrotto.

Joe was a veteran of World War II and served in the Signal Corp of the 78th Infantry Lightning Division, and was recipient of a Bronze Star.

Joe was a devout Catholic and daily communicant for most of his life. He was very active in St. Francis of Assisi and St. Clare Catholic Church and was a Eucharistic Minister. He moved to Lake Park, Florida in 1963 after being transferred by RCA to the new plant build in Palm Beach Gardens, where he was employed for 41 years before retiring from his job as a supervisor in the Solid State division. When the RCA plant had major layoffs in 1971, instead of taking a transfer back to Pennsylvania, opting Joe to start Scirrotto’s Catering, which had it’s beginning out of the Knight’s of Columbus hall at Council #4999 in Riviera Beach. Joe was a 4th Degree member of the KofC and served a term as Grand Knight. All of his friends knew Joe to be a kind-hearted soul, and would be hard pressed to have heard him ever utter a bad word about anyone. And everyone also knew Joe loved to dance, and continued dancing every Friday night, well into his 90’s.

Joe is survived by his sisters Jane and Victoria, of Philadelphia, PA. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary, his eldest son, Joseph J. Scirrotto, Jr., and grandchild Matthew Scirrotto. Joe was a caring father to five sons, Joseph Scirrotto, Jr.(deceased) (Margaret), Dominic Scirrotto (Beth), Gregory Scirrotto (Jan), Ronald Scirrotto (Joan) and John Scirrotto (Karen). Joe had 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January, 17th at 11:00am at St. Clare Catholic Church in North Palm Beach, followed immediately by internment at Riverside Memorial Park, 19351 SE County Line Rd, Tequesta, FL 33469.
