She was a woman whose love, kindness, and strength touched so many. She was 98 years old.
Mahin was born on June 6th, 1927, in Tehran, Iran. She is survived by her six children: Shanaz Mortazavi, Mahnaz Rahmani, Alireza Gohari, Amir Hassan Gohari, Hengameh Gohari, and Saeed Gohari. She was also blessed with 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. All of us affectionately called her “Madari jan.” She was like a second mother to all of her grandchildren.
Mahin was raised by her grandmother and came from a prominent Iranian family. She was kind, loving, understanding, exceptionally smart, and most importantly, courageous. For in times of crisis, without courage, all the other cardinal virtues fail.
Mahin lost her husband when she was only 51 years old and witnessed the upheavals of the Iranian Revolution. Through it all, she remained steadfast and stoic, always helping others. Our beloved Madari jan met every challenge and crisis with courage, dignity, and faith.
Mahin loved Persian parables, poetry, and stories, which she taught to her children and grandchildren. She loved and remained deeply concerned about her homeland, but also cherished and was thankful for her adopted homeland, America. She often reminded us of how grateful we should be to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Mahin was a beacon of knowledge and wisdom, deeply valuing education and instilling its importance in her children and grandchildren. Her legacy of learning and curiosity continues to inspire her descendants, who carry forward her passion for knowledge.
Mahin’s impact is evident in the achievements and aspirations of her family, a testament to her unwavering dedication to their growth and success. She taught them to live with decency, faith, kindness, honesty, love, and graciousness, embodying the Golden Rule and inspiring her posterity to do the same.
A pillar of her community, Mahin always extended a warm welcome to newcomers with open arms and a loving heart. She was consistently the first to arrive whenever help was needed, never hesitating to lend a hand. She created a nurturing and supportive environment for family and friends. Mahin possessed an innate gift for both physical and spiritual healing—a gift her loved ones often relied upon.
Her generosity of spirit touched countless lives, reflected in the many people, near and far, who shared their heartfelt sympathies at her passing. Her understanding and kindness were so genuine that many came to regard her as a member of their own family. Mahin’s love, guidance, and generosity will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In the final years of her life, though Mahin lost much of her vision and her mobility became limited, she bore her infirmities with patience and without complaint. She often reminded us to be grateful for the blessings we enjoy. When the time came to depart, just half an hour before her passing, she softly said three times that she was ready to leave. Her final words to us were, “I love you all.”
Our beloved Madari jan was a woman of great faith and unwavering devotion. She taught us to pray and to call upon the powers of heaven, and she showed us how to use that power to bless our lives and the lives of our loved ones.
Mahin stayed current with world news. More importantly, she stayed current with the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and their spouses. Our beloved Madari jan included everyone in her prayers. She always reached out to extended family members and friends to ask how they were doing and whether she could do anything for them.
Mahin has left an enduring legacy of love, service, faith, learning, and compassion for her posterity that will continue to guide us. We take comfort in knowing that she is now free from pain, embraced by God’s eternal love and reunited with her husband as well as many family members, who are welcoming her with open arms. We look forward with hope to a joyful reunion. Until that day, we will honor her memory by living with the same kindness, gratitude, and graciousness she showed to us all.
May she rest in peace. May her memory be blessed forever. Madari jan we love you and we will never forget you.
The family Funeral for Mahin will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
