Peggy was born in Brookline, MA in 1917 to Margaret Clough and Leavitt Leroy Edgar and attended Beaver Country Day School and Pine Manor Junior College. She lived most of her life in the Boston area, raising her three children in Wellesley MA. As a child she adored her summers in Wolfeboro, NH on Lake Winnipesaukee, and as an adult, lived at Bald Peak Colony Club in Melvin Village, NH. She enjoyed the membership of many clubs, including the Wellesley Country Club and Mariner Sands.
Peggy is survived by her three children—Judy and Jim Ryan of Manhattan Beach, CA, Diane Morgan of Martha’s Vineyard, MA, and David and Rennie Polk of West Hartford, CT—and three step-children: Ron Broadbent of Virginia, Dale Crowe of Massachusetts and Ken Broadbent of West Virginia. She leaves nine grandsons and 15 great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband, Richard A. Broadbent of Wellesley Hills, MA and her brother Charles Edgar.
Peggy was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed golf, gardening, curling, and volunteering for various nonprofit organizations. She also loved winning at bridge and poker, especially when her opponents were her grandsons. Her biggest priority—and biggest point of pride—was her family. As the matriarch of a sizeable clan, she never forgot a single birthday, and inspired everyone with her selflessness, good humor, and trademark “Peggyisms” until the very end.
