Max Houss

Max an amazingly dedicated and loving Husband of JoAnn and previously of Lillian, father of Dr. Carolyn Houss and her husband Dr. Mitchell Marks, and Max’s son Joseph and his wife Cheryl, grandfather (Poppy) of Melissa, Joshua, Michael, Remi, Paul and great grandfather of Lilly, Aaron, Beatrice, Mason, Ryder and Luca. Max welcomed JoAnn’s children RoseAnn, Richard and Maria, and their spouses, as well as JoAnn’s 6 grand sons and a newborn great-granddaughter, as part of his family as well. Loved by all for his constant concern for the health and wellbeing of everyone in his family, as well as his friends and business associates.

Max’s strength started early in his life as a holocaust survivor, where his passion for freedom and life brought him back to Germany as a US infantry soldier, successfully fighting against the Nazi regime, and after the victory, assisting in freeing concentration camps.

He was honored with the Legion of Honor award, infantry awards and recognized by many organizations for his patriotism, fearlessness and commitment to the United States and freedom for the Jewish people and all free Nations. He was especially touched by the letter from President Trump that was presented to him recently, which included personal references to passages in the book Max wrote about his life that he was incredibly proud of.

His successful career as a direct mail marketing business owner spanned decades. From before the advent of zip codes, through the efficiencies of computer technologies, his intelligence and innovativeness allowed him to adapt new strategies that allowed his businesses to grow throughout the years.

As an active philanthropist, Max’s charitable contributions aided those in need, as well as making sure that the horrors of the Nazi regime are remembered by his donations to Holocaust and Judaica museums around the world.

Only a month ago, Max celebrated his 100th Birthday with his loving wife JoAnn by his side, and his sister Lilly, his children, grandchildren, family and friends all celebrating this amazing man’s achievements. He certainly knew he was loved by all as he danced the night away and enjoyed all of his friends and family helping to celebrate his life.

Max Houss, his achievements and his passion for life, will never be forgotten.
