Rick,
I have always thought one of the best legacies someone could leave behind is to be missed; well you will be missed.  Your co-workers will miss you, friends and family.  I'm going to miss some of the interesting conversations we had on the back porch and my lasting memory of you will be how you always tried to do for others.  To care for others was a good example for us.  You are missed.

Uncle Rick,  Since you have passed on from this world to the next, I think of you everyday. I think of the times we had together and how much you loved Heataher, Kenny and me and how proud you were of us. You don't realize how much family means to you until you lose someone. You were such an awesome person, Uncle Rick, and I wish I could have gotten to know you more. I'm sorry for not making more of an to effort to be a part of your life. But I'm going to always remember your big heart, your humor, and most of all your stories from the hosptial. Those were always my favorite. Thank you for being a best friend to my Mom and taking care of Gram. You're going to be missed. I love you. See you soon!

Richard Cleaver:  son, brother, uncle, great uncle, cousin, friend.  Rick, my son, I want you to know that you are my best friend. You were always there for me in whatever I needed. You never complained, never said no, and was always agreeable. You placed me on the highest pedestal ever. Never in my life can anyone imagine how thankful, sincere, honest and loving you were.  This showed in every one you touched. You are wonderful . You have a big, big heart. You showered your little dog with so much love, that she showered you right back. I love you Rick and will see you some day. And to all of you--Rick will be so happy that you came to see him off to heaven. Thank you all.

Uncle Rick,

Uncle Rick did not have children but he did have us- me, my brother Kenny and my sister Kristina and he spoiled us rotten! From day one, he planned for us through college funds. He always put others above himself. He did not have the funds, yet he chose to set aside monies for us for college. That was Uncle Rick-loving and thoughtful. There are so many great memories. Too many to discuss but one that comes to mind was our walk along the beach. You loved me so much that you didn't want to hurt my feeelings. As I walked ahead of you, picking up seashells, I then handed them to you. At three, my judgement was not the greatest, I handed them off to you with the biggest smile and you then told me how lovely they were. As I turned around to gather more, you then immediatley tossed them behind you! Now that I'm older, I understand just how ugly the seashells were. Broken, black, chipped but all of which were gorgeous to me. You just couldn't bare to tell me. Now it is a laughing joke amongst our family. I can't help but think of you everytime we are at the beach. It is such a happy feeling and this time, I picked up pretty seashells for you to keep. Three for the three of us favorites! I would like to end with this poem:

Rick,
 You are the most loving, caring, generous, funny and wonderful brother a sister could have ever received from God. You always brought out the good in all of us and I will always be grateful to you. I will cherrish our childhood memories and our trips together to other countries as adults. I can see us now sitting together in First Class excited about our next adventure! You always knew where to take us and what to see. You were the best tour guide and I will forever miss our trips together. 
Rick, most of all you loved my children Kenny, Heather and Kristina like they were your own. You always remembered their birthdays as well as holidays and special occassions like graduations and weddings. You always tried to be at all their special events and if you couldn't be there in person we knew you were there in our hearts.
Thank you for loving me and helping me to be a better sister, daughter, wife and mother. You were always there to listen when I needed a shoulder to cry on. I will miss you but I will never forget you. I think of you everyday. You were my brother and my best friend. Until we meet again.......

Rick, my son, my best friend:  My little blue eyed baby boy born on father's day in 1955--truly was a beautiful gift.  I loved you the moment you were born.  You with the blue eyes and smiling face, were always happy and forever pleasing everyone.  You always did your best to make people happy.   Never in my life can I imagine how thoughtful, caring and sincere you were.  You were the best son any mother could ever ask for.  I,ll cherish our many, many times together. Ricky… my most favorite cousin and best buddy growing up. We were two of a kind, sort of odd and we danced to “the beat of our own drummer.” Thank you for my first taste of Boon's Farm Apple wine, listening to my first Santana records, and watching the drive-in movies from the other side of the fence. You were a year older, so I tried to emulate you as much as I could. I painted my bedroom walls with fluorescent paints and put in the black light to make it all glow. Your room was just so much better.  We couldn't wait to meet up at the “Big House” in West Palm Beach so we could explore it and look for ghosts and hidden stuff, and then go down to the beach and bury one of us cousins in the sand. It was never a dull moment with you and I took for granted you would always be around. I am so grateful that I got to see you a few times in the past few years. 
Why, why, why didn't we keep calling and writing like we said we would? I will miss you my dear friend and cousin, and will regret that we didn't spend more time together as we grew up. I moved to California when I turned 21 and you were supposed to come someday soon. We had so many plans.
To Aunt Dee: I am so sorry for the loss of Rick, but I want you to know that he was very much loved and was a wonderful friend and confidante to me when I really needed it as a child. Rick is still around you now, as well as all of your other loved ones, to comfort you during this difficult time. I will be back to Florida soon, and I will be sure that I reconnect with all the people I love, as well.

Hi Uncle Rick.  It's Kenny, your favorite nephew.  

I am having a hard time writing you this letter, because I don't know where to start.  I think back over the last 27 years of my life and I can pick out countless memories that I will always cherish, as will my children and the time you took to spend with them on your visit's to our home when we lived in Texas.

Your life has touched so many lives and has made a lasting impression upon all of us.  Your legacy of kindness, gentleness, and love is one that will live on forever in each and every one of us.  My children will know of their great-uncle and his amazing love.  

I can remember your last trip to Texas to visit us after Levi was born.  I came home from work and you were watching The Wizard of Oz with Madeline on the computer.  I walked in and you said, “I wanted Madeline to remember the first time she ever watched this movie was with me.”  Well, she remembers Uncle Rick.  When I told her of your passing she wasn't sure which Uncle I was talking about, then I told her he is the one that you watched the movie with she said, “Yes, I remember” and then she broke down in tears.  Later that evening when we were eating dinner, Madeline wanted to say a special pray for you.  She said, “Dear God, please bring Uncle Rick back, we miss him and want you to heal him so we can see him again.”  Daddy had to tell her, I'm sorry sweetheart, Uncle Rick won't be coming back, he is in Heaven with Jesus and God and he will be watching over us from Heaven and one day we will see him again. 

I asked Madeline if she would like to draw you a picture and write you a letter.  I told her I would give it to you.  She drew a picture of her, mommy, and you swinging on the swing set.  She also wrote “I love you and miss you and I will see you in Heaven love Madeline Pospisil.”  She made sure to remind me again before I got on the plane that I didn't forget to give you her letter, so you will have it with you forever to remind you how much she loves you.

I know how much you were looking forward to being at Archer's baptism this summer, so I printed off a picture of the kids and I want you to have it.  I want you to know that he is such a joy to be with and Levi has been such an amazing big brother even though he requires the most attention. You should see the boys together, they make such a great team and I look forward to watching them grow up together.  Levi will play with him and try to tickle him and he loves to give his little brother kisses.  He is such a big help too.  If Archer is crying I will say, “Levi give Archer is packie” he will run over and put the pacifier in his mouth……well at least attempt too.   I wish you could have seen and held him.  Even though you never met him I know you loved him none the less because he is my son.  He is so beautiful, just like his mother, he has blonde hair and blue eyes.  He is so strong too; he has great control of his head and can hold his own weight up for the most part.  You and I both know that grandma will make an outstanding God-Mother to Archer and we will be thinking about you during his baptism, as I am sure we will all feel your presence during this wonderful occasion.  You should see how Madeline is with her brothers, what an amazing sister she is.  She is so smart too, she is learning to read now and does a great job.  She missed a couple of days at school and brought her homework home with her one day.  I sat her down and said “Ok, Madeline do your homework and daddy will come by and check once you are done.”  She finished a page and I started to look at it and I said, “Sweetie I think you messed up on this part and she said no I didn't”, she then proceeded to explain to me what she did, needless to say I was wrong and she was right.  She is 6 going on 13 and man is it scary.  My little angel is growing into a young lady right before my eyes and she is so beautiful too.

You would always make the effort to talk to me every couple of weeks and let me know what is going on in your life as I would tell you what is going on in mine.  Every time I spoke with you, you would always end the conversation by telling me how proud you are of me and everything I have done in my life.  This is something that I will always remember the rest of my life.  

Thank you for everything that you gave me.  I have GG and grandpap's clock and a few other items that you handed down to me because you know how much I love these things.  Not only will I look upon these items and remember my great-grandparents but now I will remember you.  One day I will pass these items onto my children and they will remember all of us and the history of our great family.

Although Daryl and the kids could not be here, they send their love and will always be thinking of you.  The Nappo's, my in-laws, told me that even though they only met you during Levi's baptism that you were such a wonderful man and they loved the time that they spent with you and they will always remember you.

You would be so proud of the family too, everyone is coming together and taking care of each other during this time.  I don't want you to worry about Grandma or Mom they will be taken care of.

In closing, Uncle Rick I would like to say one day we will meet again in Heaven but until then drop in from time to time to check in on us and see how things are going and if Kristina or Heather are misbehaving you have my permission to scare them.

Rick your death came to me and my family as a terrible shock, you will be missed. Your memories will live on with me. As your younger cousin growing up I always looked up to you. As I remember so many wonderful memories of the times we spent together during family get togethers etc..You were a great person and will be deeply missed by many. I am so sad and shocked to hear about this very sad news. Although we never got to have our lunch,it feels like yesterday that I talked to Rick. If it hadn't been for Chuck's memorial I may have never have seen Rick one more time. What memories I will always have, from grade school to college! We had so many good times and shared a quirky and delicious sense of humor! Although he was not in my daily life there will be a hole left that only he could fill. Dee, please know that you and Lori will be in my prayers and again, I am so very sorry for this great loss of yours. No one will ever replace our "Cleo".

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Richard Cleaver.  I worked with Richard at Treasure Coast Treatment Center and found him to be a dedicated and compassionate nurse who genuinely loved his profession. His passing is a great loss to the nursing profession and he will be greatly missed by the staff at Treasure Coast.  My sincere sympathy to his family and friends.
