On Saturday, February 18, 2023, Richard Proscia passed away peacefully at his home in Palm Beach Gardens, FL surrounded by his family. Richard was born in 1935, to Giacomo and Nancy Proscia. He was raised in Brooklyn, NY along with his brother, Saverio and sister, Lucy.
Richard was known as the “Prince” to his Jupiter friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a role model, loved and respected by his family and friends.
Richard graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and enlisted in the army after graduation.
Richard married his “sweetheart” Reina Santiago, in 1956. They had two sons, James and Rich Jr. Richard hoped to go to college and become a professional engineer but was destined to work in the family business. Richard and Reina lived in Brooklyn for most of their lives, moving to Jupiter, Florida upon retirement.
Richard enjoyed bicycle riding and reading non-fictional books on the world and civil wars. Above all, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren. Nothing made him happier than to have all his grandchildren together for the holidays or a birthday party.
Richard was a very generous man providing assistance to nieces, nephews, friends, or anyone in need. Richard demonstrated an incredibly strong work ethic throughout his life. He emphasized the importance of education to his children and grandchildren.
Although we are deeply saddened by his passing, we take great comfort in knowing he is reunited with his spouse of 64 years, Reina, who passed away in July of 2021. Richard was also predeceased by his brother Saverio Proscia and wife Kate, brother in-law Frank Santiago and wife Kay, brother in-law Gerry Santiago, sister in-law Sally Santiago and business partners and first cousins, Michael, and Sonny Proscia.
He will be deeply missed by his son James and his wife Sarah; his son, Richard and daughter-in-law Christina. Affectionately known as “Poppy” to his grandchildren, Matthew, Dana (James), Richard, Nick (Hilary) and Allison and great grandchildren, Noah and Helen Christina. Richard is survived by his sister, Lucy Monda (Lou); his brother in-law, Louis Santiago and sister in-law, Sherry Santiago.
The family would like to thank Palm Beach Gardens Fire and Rescue and the physicians/nursing staff at Jupiter Medical Center for their professionalism and incredible expertise. We also want to thank Dr. Rappaport and his staff for their diligence and caring ways. Lastly, we want to thank Deborah, Jennifer, and Corinne for their uncompromising commitment to Richard’s well-being.
Your pain and suffering are over now! Rest in peace knowing you were deeply loved by your family and friends.
