Sandra Downham, “Sandy”, passed away peacefully with her family on December 21, 2017. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of sixty years, Charles (Chick) Downham III, their daughter, Diane Downham Gaudet (Robert) and grandaughter, Natalie Beth. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert E. Poland and Elizabeth McMurray of Philadelphia, PA and her daughter, Beth Ann Downham of Warrington, PA.
Sandy was born in Philadelphia, PA and graduated with a BS in Education from West Chester State College. She and Charles built and founded the state licensed Elbow Lane Nursery School and Day Camp in Warrington, PA. She taught and administrated the Nursery School for twenty years while helping her husband build and run the camp.
After relocating with Chick to Jupiter/Tequesta, FL in 1986, Sandy became a golfer, bridge player, volunteer at Jupiter Medical Center for twenty nine years and a much loved grandmother known as “Grams”. She was an exquisite sewer and knitter in her spare time. Sandy will be remembered as a loving, supportive, fun, strong, wife, mother and friend to those who knew her.
A memorial service to honor Sandra will be held at Aycock Funeral Home in Jupiter on Thursday, January 11 at 2 pm. There will be a reception to follow at Turtle Creek Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Treasure Coast Hospice Foundation (www.treasurehealth.org).
