Ale was born on March 10, 1930 in Wailuku, Hawai'i. He is predeceased in death by his wife of 53 years, Sharon Arao (who passed away only four short months before him), his parents Dionisio Arao, his sister Alfonsa (Goring) Lopez and his sister in-law Maria Arao.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Margaret Hubin and his children: Bobbie Arao (Wilfred Robello), Alexander Arao (Mary), Bianca Bryant-Greenwood (Peter), Anastasia Arao-Tagayuna. Grandchildren: Chadlyn Shadd, Christopher Robello, Cheron and Corey Arao, Mia and Ari Bryant-Greenwood, Kaikea, Kainoa, Kainalu and Kaile'a Arao-Tagayuna. Great-Grandchildren: Taelyn and Tzailyn Dumayas and Kyree Ka'awa.
Ale worked in the maintenance department of the Royal Lahaina resort for over 25 years and performed as a musician with Emma Farden Sharpe's Hula Troupe for many decades. He was self-taught in playing the ukulele, the stand up and electric bass, and the acoustic guitar. A talented musician, he could pick up any instrument and play a tune by ear. There were many occasions where he would be strumming his ukulele or guitar, singing softly to himself. He played with the Lahaina-Honolua Senior Citizen's to entertain the residents throughout Maui, spreading the Aloha Spirit through music. He shared his talents teaching others including many of his family members and inspired them to also play and love music.
He will be fondly remembered as "Pops", "Papa", "Unko", and "Uncle Ale". He was a brother and mentor to many. His presence, his son will be missed as he goes to join his wife Sharon, in a well-deserved eternal rest.
Condolences can be sent to: PO Box 12316 Lahaina, Hawaii 96761.
