Boyce “Bo” Keith Ellison, born 2/19/1935 in Bells,Texas, deceased 11/7/2015. Bo came to Maui in 1975 to play fast pitch softball with Joe Pagan and his Maui Braves team. Joe had a team he had to beat and had seen Bo pitch in a tournament on the Mainland and knew he had to recruit him for his Maui team. Teddy Sniffen was his catcher and long time friend and got Bo a job with Sniffens Trucking Co. so Bo could permanently move to Maui.
Bo was quite proud of the family home he built in 1978, one of the first homes built in Pukalani. He built it himself with the help of his softball teammates and his Sniffens Trucking co-workers.
Bo and Ann actually met at a softball game when he was in the Air Force and on the day they were married, he had to travel from Las Vegas to Phoenix to play in a softball game. As the years went on Bo’s love for softball continued and he actively played slow pitch with the Maui Senior Softball League up until the day he became ill. Bo was playing with his team, Ka Newa, at the state’s Senior Softball Tournament, in Kona the day the symptoms of his cancer were diagnosed. You could say that close behind Ann and family, softball was a huge part of Bo’s life.
Bo and Ann also loved to travel. He’s traveled to every continent except Antarctica and upon moving to Maui, Bo and his old Ford pickup had traveled in all 50 US states.
Bo is survived by wife Ann and 4 sons: Boyce Jr, Kenneth, Scott, and Asa;, 2 daughters, Pamela and Mildred, and 8 grandchildren: Casey, Christine, Amy, Amber, Tessa, Tasha, James and Naomi; 10 great-grandchildren, and sister, Linda Mullin.
Bo’s request was that his family celebrate his life privately. Bo’s family thanks everyone for their prayers and aloha.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the medical staff at Maui Memorial Medical Center, at the Veteran's Affairs (VA) Medical Center, and to Hospice Maui for their kind and compassionate care and help.
