

Byron graduated Maui High School in 1976 before joining the U.S Air Force. After serving in the U.S Air Force, Byron returned home and attended trade school in Honolulu with a degree in Welding. He worked for the County of Maui in the Water Department as a Pipefitter then transferred as a Welder where he retired.
Byron is survived by his wife Michelle Kalawaia Kai, Children; Heidi Cravalho (Danny Berrios), Shelby Kalawaia (Aj Trilles), Lani Kalawaia Kai (Sione Niuila), Kailani Kalawaia Kai. Grandchildren; Kehaulani Ramos, Kahiaulani Ramos, Kanoelani Ramos, Amelia Berrios, Ajynn Trilles, Kaiola Trilles, Kūleʻa Niuila, Keaulani Niuila. Great-Grandchild: Adalyne-lee Dodd. Siblings; Al (Luz) Kai, Bernie (Howard) Sylva, Kimo Kai, U’ilani (Guy) Danley.
Visitation services will be held on Friday, April 12th, 2024 from 8:30-11am at Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului; services will begin at 11am; a Celebration of Life will occur the following day on Saturday, April 13th, 2024 at the Kai residence from 12-4pm.
