James “Bozo” Maclean Dunn Jr. of Hana, passed away on September 10th, 2019 at home in Hana with his family, where he had been a resident for 45 years. He was born in Honolulu, Oahu on September 25th, 1934 and raised in Kaneohe. He attended Roosevelt High School, graduating from Trade School to become a mechanic. He previously worked at Schuman Carriage in Honolulu, then Valley Isle Ford in Wailuku. He later managed the Hana Gas station, eventually retiring from the Hotel Hana Maui Motor pool in 2008.
He loved building fast cars, trucks, racing boats, riding motorcycles and mopeds. He played with remote control (gas and electric) cars, trucks, planes, boats, and whatever else he could get his hands on to and make them go faster! Latching onto the computer era, he got into gaming, always having a good time no matter what he did. Bozo also had a deep love for all his dogs, especially “Pele”, his white and spotted pit bull.
He was predeceased by his wife Frances Ellen Dunn; father and mother James M. Sr. and Christabel Medeiros Dunn; sisters, Kahaunani Dunn Wilson, Jonnie Mililani Dunn; son, James M. “Kimo” Dunn III; granddaughter, Rebecca Naea Dunn Kaio; stepson, Douglas Simmons.
He is survived by daughter and fulltime caregiver, Christabel (Curtis Douglas) Dunn of Hana; son, James M. “Jimmy” Dunn IV of Kihei; mother of Christabel and Jimmy, Gail Caires; sister, Mildred “Curlie” Dunn Injian of Sacramento, CA; granddaughter, Christin (Nainoa) Dunn Kalama; 5 great grandchildren, stepchildren, Candace Sigrah and Kai Payne, and 3 step-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and many beloved friends.
Your cherished memory will remain in our hearts and minds for all time!
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Bozo’s family would like to express their many thanks to Dr. Ryan Fusato and his staff of the Kahului Maui Medical Group, and Dr. Ramin Altaha and his staff at Maui Cancer Clinic for their excellent care over the past several years. A special thanks also goes out to the staff at Norman’s Mortuary for handling arrangements and their kindness to our family.
