Kathy passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on November 24, 2022. She is survived by her Mother, Magdalen ( Maggie ) Schultz; Husband, Dave Campbell; her Children, John (Andrea) and Ashley (Will); Grandson Tristan; Siblings Barbara (Kevin), Theresa (Edward), Michael (Deb), Rita, John (Theresa), and Paul (Lori). She was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Schultz.
Kathy was born in Chicago, Illinois, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She graduated from St. Francis High School in Wheaton, Illinois, and attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. In her early years, Kathy worked many jobs, including being a carhop at an A&W Drive-In, and a Manager of a retail store, Just Jeans. She made sure her siblings always looked their best in their jeans. Prior to moving to Maui, Kathy was the General Manager of Home Hardware, a family-owned chain of 7 stores.
Destined to blend their lives, Kathy and Dave embarked together on a path that undeniably led them to Hawai'i. She and Dave fell in love with Maui on their first visit. On this tiny island in the middle of the sea, she would put her visionary and gifted spirit into action. It was here on Maui that Kathy enjoyed her life as a wife, mother, co-founder/owner of a thriving tour business, and eventually a grandmother.
Surprisingly, both Kathy and her twin sister Barbara live on islands but in different hemispheres - Maui and New Zealand!
Although Dave is the frontman of Temptation Tours, the business they started 37 years ago, Kathy was the tour de force behind the scenes. The beauty and generosity Kathy brought forth from her creative spirit were contagious, whether running the French Café at Seabury Hall's renowned Craft Faire or making beautiful plates of brownies for over 400 people, island-wide, associated with Temptation Tours during the Holidays.
How did she do it? Every December, Kathy would turn her home kitchen into a boutique bakery, baking and personally plating thousands of hand-decorated brownies at night. By day, each perfectly cut, center brownie was delivered by Kathy and Dave as a token of gratitude - no corners or day-olds allowed! Every plate of chocolate brownie goodness came straight from her heart.
There are no words to describe the exceptional person Kathy was entirely. She was insightful and ready to shower you with support and new ideas for almost any situation, whether a new business or a lifestyle change. In her eyes, if a person was kind and loving and working towards being the best they could be, they could do no wrong. She always looked for the best in people.
Her love for her family was palpable and always a good reminder of how precious our loved ones are in this short life we have.
We have lost a bright light. Yet, we know Kathy shines brightly in all who have known her. She would not want us to shine less brightly in the wake of her sudden passing. Her wish would be for us to make our light more brilliant and shine it on others. Kathy's wishes were for a private family Celebration of Life wherein her ashes will be scattered at sea off the coast of Maui.
