Marcella was very athletic in her youth and participated in swimming, springboard diving, and ice skating. She was fond of diving off railroad trestles into the waters around Seattle.
Marcella retired as a blood technician for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. After retiring, she took trips to places where she could enjoy the ocean. These countries included the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Jamaica, Germany, Italy, Austria, and Machu Picchu. Her love of the ocean brought her to Lahaina, Maui, where she lived for many years. On Maui, she is best known as the “POG” lady, where she passed out samples of the POG drink and macadamia nut candies at supermarkets and drug stores.
