September 3, 1945 – February 21, 2026
Patrick William Tavares, 80, passed away at his home on February 21, 2026. Revered as a master of his craft, cherished as a mentor, and adored as a father, partner, brother, grandfather, and friend, Patrick lived a life defined by strength, grit, devotion, and an extraordinary heart.
Born on September 3, 1945, Patrick grew up in a close-knit community and attended Saint Joseph’s School before graduating from Saint Anthony’s High School. At age 14, his life changed forever when he lost his left arm in an auto accident. What could have stopped many instead ignited in him a determination that would come to define his entire life. Patrick never allowed adversity to limit him—he simply refused to quit.
His unstoppable spirit carried him into a long, remarkable career as a mechanic, auto body technician, and race car driver. In his garage and on the racetrack, Patrick built a legacy that became legend. People marveled not only at his skill, but at the way he made the impossible look effortless. If it had an engine, Patrick could bring it back to life. If someone needed help, he made time—always.
But Patrick’s greatest impact was on the countless people whose lives he touched. He taught young people more than how to work on cars; he taught them how to work hard, how to stand tall, and how to live with integrity. He offered his time, tough love, and an open heart. Generations admired and respected him—not just for what he could fix with his hands, but for what he inspired in others.
Patrick lived surrounded by family, friends, and a community that loved him deeply. He is survived by his children, Michelle Rene Tavares, and William Patrick Tavares; his partner, Edrienne Morgan Pruse; his sisters, Therese Wendt Marquez and Greta Ann (Joe) Kailiehu; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind countless friends, protégés, and admirers who will carry his lessons, stories, and spirit forward.
To know Patrick was to witness courage, humor, humility, and heart. He lived fully, fought hard, and gave endlessly. Though our hearts are heavy, his legacy—one built on resilience, generosity, and love—will continue to guide all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Rest easy, Patrick. Your hands shaped more than engines—
they shaped lives, and your impact will never fade. Keep burning rubbah up there with Jesus and the boys.
