Bob Vickers, 76, of Camp Maui graduated from this life into eternity on November 21, 2024, at his residence. He was born on February 4, 1948, in Kalihi Valley, Hawaii. Bob began his employment as a typical local newspaper boy. While attending Kailua High School Surfriders, he worked as a gas station attendant. During the summer, he knew he could make “big bucks” working hard as a roofer providing him with many humorous experiences. Although he tried out for various sports, he chose football, wrestling and track not knowing that one day he would be coaching Upon graduation, he joined the United States Air Force in 1966, the year he married Mary, and served four years as a Munitions Specialist, being stationed in Japan, Korea and Hickam. Honolulu Police Department was his next adventure making lifelong friends and “getting paid to ride a motorcycle” and yes, enforcing the law. In 1976, he transferred to the Maui Police Department desiring to move to Maui since 1969. Upon being “born-again” in Jesus the Christ, he resigned from the Police Department and entered Redemption Bible College in Kailua, Oahu. He enrolled at the University of Hawaii- Manoa and completed his BA in Sociology. Returning to Maui, he worked for the Maui Electric Company, the County of Maui as a Liquor Inspector and an instructor of welding at Maui Community College. God then opened the door for Bethel Investigation, becoming a private investigator. His interests led him to become the first civilian for the Maui Police Department as a Traffic Accident Reconstructionist. He also began In His Service and Bethel International Fellowship assisting his ministries. By the grace of God, Bob built his cottage and home with the help of a few others. In his leisure time throughout the years, he was involved in Aikido, Judo, Cub Scouts, coached soccer and wrestling, assisted with track and field, cross country, diving, water safety instructor, volunteer for political candidates, raising cattle and lots of yardwork. He did security for several of his friends’ security companies and also officiated at seven weddings and recently was doing illustrations for a friend’s book.
Bob shared the “Good News” every opportunity God gave him, as evidenced with his shirts and caps! In 1981, a Maui News article referred to Bob as “the Lone Angel” spreading the gospel while on the Maui Police Department solo bike squad. One thing he wasn’t afraid of is work and would keep busy doing something. He was a friend to many and will be greatly missed by those who knew him. Until we meet again in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus----we love you and miss you!
