

Roland “Ro Tubby” Caniaveral 79, of Kahului Maui, Peacefully passed away on Thursday January 7, 2021 at Queens Medical Center Punchbowl Oahu his loving wife of 56 years by his side along with his daughter, niece and nephew. Prior to Roland being admitted to Queens Roland went to Pacific Rehab in Oahu and his wife Ernest was by his side for a month.
Roland “Ro Tubby” was born in Ewa Plantation Oahu on January 3, 1942 to the late Ignacio Caniaveral Sr. and the late Sanita Caroline Medina Versola. He also is predeceased by his daughter Susan “Susie” Marie Alohilani Caniaveral Lynch and siblings Patrick Natividad, Sanita “Sarah” Villares and Ignacio Caniaveral Jr.
Roland “Ro Tubby” moved from Oahu at a very early age and lived with his grandfather in Camp 6 Puunene. He attended Puunene Elementary School and then went on to Baldwin High School and played football and was very active in the Future Farmers of America organization and graduated in 1960. Upon graduating Roland “Ro Tubby” enlisted in the Hawaii National Guard in May 1959 and made it a career of 8 years he took honorable discharge in 1967. He then attended Maui Tech and earned his Completion of Auto Mechanics. He worked in the field of tourism Industry and retired from Alamo Rent a Car after 25 years.
Roland “Ro Tubby” idea of relaxation was Hunting, Diving, Fishing, Bowling, Golfing, going to the movies and just hanging out with his grandchildren and great grandson and also being involved in the community. He was a devoted and quiet giver to both his family and his community, not seeking recognition or accolades for the myriad of contributions he made to the community.
Roland “Ro Tubby” was a member of the following organizations Maui Filipino Community Council (MFCC), Kahului Filipino Community Association (KFCA), Sarnay Filipino Association, Maui Jaycees and Filipino Jaycees, Maui FILAM Bowling and Hawai’i State FILAM Bowling Associations and Christ the King Filipino Catholic Club was many ways he gave himself. He helped with many different service projects including but not limited. He was a coach for Menehune Basketball for Lihikai Surfers Elementary School, Head Coach/Coordinator for Aloha Bowling Center Jr. Bowling, former Board Member, President and Vice President of the above organizations. He also was former Maui county Safety Inspection Inspector and Maui County Highway Board of Commission back in the 80. He enjoyed building and designed sets for the Miss Maui Filipino Pageant for 25 years in the 70, 80 & 90. He also represented Hawaii Seniors in the National Senior championship in 1998nin Reno Nevada. He also help the Christ the King Filipino Catholic club organize to sell pancit at the JCC Carnival and Maui County Fair back in the 70 at the old Fairgrounds now where Valley Isle Ford is located.
Roland “Ro Tubby” his love for his family ran deep, He is Survived by his beloved wife Ernesta “Nita” Talon of 56 loving years and two wonderful daughters Susan “Susie” Marie Alohilani Caniaveral Lynch and Yolanda “YoYo” PauLynn Kehaulani Caniaveral. Predeceased Susie along with her Predeceased husband Michael Denise Lynch has one daughter Lynnze Marie Nohealani Lynch and a grandson Zeign Michael Kahupono Pellazar Lynch. Yolanda has two sons Christopher Mark Kaleo Caniaveral and Roland Matthew Ikaika Caniaveral. Hanai Son Kalei and wife Wyllie Contrades of Barrows Alaska along with their children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepmother Flora Caniaveral of Waipahu Oahu, a brother Eugene Mika of Honolulu and two sisters Myrtle Caniaveral of Waianae Oahu and Mary Zapata of Seattle Washington and numerous Nephews, Nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, and Great grandnephews and Great grandnieces.
A Drive Thru service over ashes will be held on Thursday February 4, 2021 at Ballard’s Family Mortuary in Kahului. Family will receive the Public Drive Thru at 6pm to 9pm. The Family is asking for those who attend to comply with State, County and Ballard’s Family Mortuary COVID19 guidelines. Please wear a face mask and social distancing will also be observed.
On Friday February 5, 2021 PRIVATE MASS SERVICES will be held at Christ the King, Kahului mass at 9am by INVITATION ONLY. Please contact daughter Yolanda at
