Shirley Lilinoe “Echo” Kahula of Hāna, Maui, gently went home to Ke Akua on Friday, December 5, 2025, surrounded by the love of her ʻohana.
Born on November 2, 1938, to Domingo Carvalho and Josephine Laʻi, Shirley lived a life rooted in love, service, and family. She was a guiding light — a mother, grandmother, aunty, and second mother to many — whose heart and home were always open.
She leaves behind her beloved daughters, Zelda-Mae “Mice” Kahula, Tina-Marie Leimomi Kahula, and Khristina K. Helekahi-Kahula; her treasured grandsons, Blaze K. C. R. R. Kahula, Xion-Haze O. C. R. R. Kahula, and Gabriel Helekahi; her cherished goddaughter, Jackie Dee Krause; and countless hānai children from the small, close-knit community of Hāna who called her “Ma,” “Mama,” and “Aunty Echo.”
She is joyfully reunited with her husband, Clyde “Jackie” Kahula; her sons, Clyde “Bullets” Kahula and Kevin J. W. R. R. Kahula; and her daughter, Corrine Kaleilani Kahula, now resting together in eternal peace.
Though our hearts ache in her absence, her love remains — woven into our lives, our memories, and the generations she helped raise. Shirley “Echo” Kahula will be forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
