Virginia Trelma Mathison (Kelch), 86, of Volcano, passed away on Wednesday October 16, 2013 at her residence in Volcano. She was born in California on June 22, 1927. She and her husband directed the Pentecostal Children’s Home in Alaska before filling the pulpits of various churches on Oahu and the Big Island, including Kona Gospel Chapel in Kealakekua, Haleiwa Assembly of God, and Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Hilo. They founded Volcano Assembly of God. She was known affectionately as “Sister Matt.” Funeral services will be held on Sunday October 27, 2013 at the Volcano Assembly of God. Service at 2:30 pm, burial to follow at Alae Cemetery in Hilo. She is survived by her daughters Susan (Mike) Bryant of Volcano, Linda (Casey) Cochran of Georgia; son Kenneth Mathison of Arizona; 7 grandchildren, 5+ great-grandchildren. No flowers. Aloha attire.
