

Douglas was born in Grantham England on August 30th, 1920 immigrating to Canada in 1946 after serving with the British Air Force during WW II. Upon arriving in Canada he married first wife, Madge, and settled in Kamloops where they remained the balance of their lives.
Survived by his loving wife Margaret, daughter Pam Daws of Kamloops and son Dennis(Joyce) Daws of Eagle Bay. Also survived by grandchildren Terri(Janne) Hyvarinen, Tammy(Marshall) Gellatly, Stefanie(Sam Elliott) Westaway, Trina(Darcy) Lafleur, Mark(Cristina) Daws, 9 great-grandchildren and special niece Trish Walters of Gibsons.
He was predeceased by first wife Madge in 2002.
Douglas worked for the federal government at the R.C.N.A.D until it’s closing in 1964 before joining the City of Kamloops as Assistant Manager of Memorial Arena, then Manager until assuming the position of Parks Manager in 1968 until retirement in 1982.
During his years in Kamloops he was actively involved in many community organizations.
He was a recipient of many awards, including being elected into the Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame for his involvement in minor hockey, junior hockey, minor baseball and senior soccer. Many years were also spent in various capacities with the Kamloops Symphony, Ponderosa Lodge, Kiwanis, Beautify Kamloops, Boy Scouts and Air Force Association of Canada along with spear heading the development of Kenna Cartwright and MacArthur Island Parks.
Douglas’ passion was writing poetry which he did faithfully right to his final days. He had self published numerous books of his poetry he had written over the years going back to WW II while stationed in India and Burma.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 11th, 2014 at St. Paul’s Cathedral, 360 Nicola St., Kamloops, B.C.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Douglas` name to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation.
