Garth Leslie “Les” Staley, born January 30, 1930, in Dodsland, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully in Kamloops, BC on April 9, 2026 at the age of 96.
Les will be remembered for his steady presence, quiet strength, and deep devotion to his family. He lived a long and happy life shaped by hard work, resilience, many fun times with his friends and family and a strong sense of community. He volunteered many years on the board of directors for the Surrey Credit Union. Les had a true love of the outdoors. He ensured that he instilled this same love into his daughters as he toured them through all the back roads of BC, whether it was canoeing, hiking, biking, fishing or flat tires in the wilderness. Gardening was another passion and his thumb was truly green. He could make any flower or vegetable grow but he refused to pull the weeds. Probably why his girls are so good at it.
With almost 72 years of marriage to the love of his life, Anita, their relationship was a true example of commitment and joy, serving as an inspiration to all his friends and family. They were happiest together and were rarely apart.
Whether through his dedication to his work, the support he gave to his family or the fun times he spent with loved ones, he left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He is lovingly survived by his wife Anita, his three daughters, Sheryl (Ben), Lela (Chris) and Margaret (Stephen). His eight grandchildren – Christina (Brad), Steven, Elspeth, Colin (Krystal), Heather, Erik (Meghan), Emily (Caleb), and Gavin (Erin) as well as his 8 great grandchildren – Taylor, Brooklyn, Alison, Katherine, Eliza, Levi, Noah and Charlotte will miss him greatly. His family was his greatest joy, and he loved spending time with all of them especially at the family cabin at Deka Lake
Les will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his kindness, wisdom and unwavering love for his family.
A private family gathering will be held this fall at Deka Lake to honour his life.
