

Giovannina Mercuri passed away peacefully in Kamloops on December 24, 2025, at the age of 86.
She is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Vittorio, and her children: Amedeo (Angela), Mirella (Mario), Rita (Warren), Giovanni (Tricia), and Pietro (Antonietta).
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren—Vittorio, Julia (Kaden), Emma (Luke), Dina (Corey), Jennifer (Jeff), Elysha (Ryland), Jessica (Nick), Jarod (Maddie), Brandon (Anna), Kaycee, Giovanna, and Nito—and her great-grandchildren: Abigail, Bridget, Deacon, Lennie, Harvey, Quinn, Griffey, and Remi. She is survived by her siblings Rosina, Emilia (Domenico), Ada, Ottavio (Angela), Nella (Carmine), and sisters-in-law Carmela and Maria Teresa. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.
Giovannina was predeceased by her parents, Pietro and Teresa Caputo; her in-laws, Amedeo and Giovanna Mercuri; her brothers Francesco and Paolino Caputo; her sister Maria Pagnotta; her brothers-in-law Francesco, Settimio, Alberto, and Vincenzo Mercuri, Vittorio Pagnotta, Antonio Vecchio; sisters-in-law Maria Aiello, and Elisa Mercuri; nephew Guido Vecchio; niece Antonia Guercio; great nephews Benito Pucci-Daniele, and Kevin Vecchio; and great niece Emy Pucci-Daniele.
Giovannina was born on June 23, 1939, in Aiello Calabro, Cosenza, Calabria, Italy. It was there that she met Vittorio, and the two were married on February 7, 1959. In 1962, they began a new chapter in life, emigrating to Canada with their newborn son, Amedeo. They first arrived in Halifax before continuing to Castlegar, BC. A month later, they settled in McBride, BC, where Vittorio joined family already in the area and worked for the Canadian National Railway. Their family grew with the arrivals of Mirella, Rita, Giovanni and Pietro.
On January 3, 1984, the family moved to Kamloops, BC, where they built a home filled with love, friendship, and lasting memories over the past 42 years.
A prayer service will be held at 5:30 pm on Friday, January 2, 2026, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 255 Nicola Street, Kamloops, with Father Derrick Cameron officiating. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery, 750 Notre Dame Drive, Kamloops, BC.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Paul Dickinson, the staff at Ponderosa Lodge, and the staff of 5 South at Royal Inland Hospital for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Giovannina Mercuri may be made to Royal Inland Hospital Foundation.
