

Louis A. Barre passed away peacefully on February 9th, 2014 after a brief illness. He was born August 1st, 1920 to French immigrant parents, Ambroise and Scharlotte Barre. He was raised in a farming community near Duck Lake, Sask. until he was 14 years old. The family then moved to Chilliwack, B.C. where he spent his teen years working throughout the lower mainland. He enlisted into World War II and was trained as a radio operator, spending most of the war in Alaska. When he was briefly stationed in Quebec City, P.Q., he met his future wife, Claire (nee Ducharme). Louis and Claire wrote to each other for seven years before he married her and brought her to Lillooet, B.C. where he started working as a conductor. He worked for the PGE/BCR for over 30 years, covering the line from Vancouver to Prince George. They spent their lives raising their family and being part of the community in Lillooet. After being retired for a number of years, the local RCMP hired him as an on-call guard. He enjoyed working and retired for a second time at 80 years old.
Louis was a good, hard-working, family man. His wife and children were his priority. With a wonderful sense of humour, he enjoyed having a laugh with his family, friends and co-workers. When Louis wasn't working , he loved gardening, tinkering and taking care of the home. The family had the benefit of having a handy man around who also provided a bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his children Lisa/Deryle Generous, Pierre Barre, Lucy/Guy Scotchman, Jacques/Lauretta Barre, Marc Barre and Georges Barre. His grandchildrenTara Bells, Theresa Bells, Gary/Christine Generous, Ellie Generous, Mark Scotchman, Matthew Scotchman, Eric Scotchman, Jordan Boos, Kristine Boos. His great grandchildren Coralai Generous, Alexander Eymann, and Damian Eymann. Louis is predeceased by his beloved wife Claire and oldest daughter Louise. He was also predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law,( Joseph and Lillian Barre), sister and brother in law (Francine and Patrick McInnis), and sister-in-law(Mary Barre). His is survived by his older brother Fernand Barre of North Vancouver.
Louis lived a long productive life (age 93), and during this time he was blessed with many people who loved him and whom he loved in return. He will be missed by his family, friends and loved ones.
The Reverend Father Robert (Bob) Harrarty will celebrate the Funeral Mass in St. John The Baptist Church, Lillooet, B.C. on Saturday, February 15th at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place in the Lillooet Cemetery. A reception will follow in the St. John the Baptist Parish Hall.
