It is with great sadness that the family of Yvonne Johnson announce her passing on April 2, 2026 at the age of 92.
Yvonne grew up exploring the hills of Monte Lake, BC. She met many of her cherished, life long friends at the little Monte Lake School. She also met her partner Neil/Sonny in Monte Lake and they were married in Williams Lake in 1949.
As the daughter of a provincial game warden, she developed a deep knowledge of the outdoors and preferred the quiet solitude of nature. Yvonne’s life was filled with adventure working alongside her late husband. From road building, commercial fishing, long haul truck driving to retirement, they lived a unique life – travelling and fishing the back country of BC to the Baja of Mexico.
A skilled and practical woman, she was a fantastic cook and a master at turning the simple things in life into wonderful memories. Yvonne will be remembered for her resilience, her quiet independence, and her ability to laugh at the unexpected.
She is survived by her children – twins Ron (late wife Susie) & Randine (Ken) and Wayne (Dianne). Her grandchildren Aaron, Buffy, Kevin (Kylee), Micheal (Jade), Kristen (Brent), Spencer (Melissa) and her eight great grandchildren, her sister-in laws Patsy (Pat) Linge and Fran Johnson and her cousin Lynn Mortensen -Oudoire.
Yvonne is predeceased by her husband of 57 years Neil/Sonny Johnson, parents Maurice and Gladys Mortenson, in-laws Carl and Annie Johnson, brothers-in-law Donnie and Eugene, daughter- in-law Susie and granddaughter Marie.
As per Yvonne’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery in the coming weeks.
The family would like to thank Dr. Howie and the staff at Gemstone for their care and support.
