Richard David Nielsen

On the afternoon of Sunday December 20th, 2015 Richard David Nielsen passed away peacefully with his family in his presence. He will lovingly be remembered by his wife Judy, step daughter Lynnette (Keith), step son Richard (Gina), his three granddaughters Danica (Dom), Chayla and Kendra and his great granddaughter Isabella, two brothers Ken (Janet) and John (Diane); and five sisters Virginia El-Zorkany, Lorraine (Frank Green), Kathleen (Al Gardiner), Frances Mary (Al Petersen) and Carolyn (Mike Kazarian) and his several Aunts, Uncles, nieces and nephews.

Richard was predeceased by his parents Chris and Arlene Nielsen in 1979.

Richard was born in Ponoka, Alberta June 10, 1959 and moved to Kamloops with his family in 1972. He attended Norkam Secondary and went on to Cariboo College where he graduated as a journeyman carpenter. He worked for several different home builders in the last 35 years. While Richard was working a job in Golden BC, he met the love of his life Judy and convinced her to move to Kamloops and become his wife. Together they have spent the last 31 years camping, fishing, hiking and exploring the areas around Kamloops and the Interior. On many of their camping trips his granddaughters would be in tow, he was happy to teach them how to fish, (yes we lost a few rods in the lake) fix things around the house and even give driving lessons as they got older. He truly loved spending quality time with his family and never missed an extracurricular activity or Sunday dinner. His great granddaughter was the twinkle in his eye and he spent the last year doting over her.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. DelBegio, his sister Kathy, friend Victor and the wonderful staff at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice. A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at the Calvary Community Church on Wednesday December 30th at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Kamloops Hospice Association at 72 Whiteshield Cres S, Kamloops, B.C. V2E 2S9, in memory of Richard.
