The family of Winona (Nonie) Phyllis Field announces her peaceful passing at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, BC on February 5, 2026. She was 97.
Winona is survived by her devoted children; Brian (Jill) Field, Ron (Jody) Field and Susan (Randy) Engemoen. She was a loving grandmother to Devon, Riley (Rachel) and Brodie Field; Kirstyne (Kyle) Brewer and Shauna (Colin) Leslie. Great-grandmother to Hayden and Mylo Brewer, Lukas and Charlotte Field, and Damien Leslie. She was also step-grandmother to Jody’s children; Mike (Meghan, Arizona, Addison) Bryant and Angela (Casey, Isaac, Levi) Hensrud.
Winona was born in Vancouver, BC in September 22, 1928 to British immigrants Elsie and Horace Newell. The Newell family moved to Kamloops and established Newell Flower Shop in 1938. Their business continues to thrive under the leadership of their grandson, Brian.
Winona trained to become a Registered Nurse at the Royal Inland Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1950. She married Wilbur in 1953 and soon became a busy mother of three, embracing family life at their longtime home on Douglas Street. She also managed to find time to start her own business, Candy Lane, in the former Woodward’s tower. For many years Nonie was an avid gardener, a member of Soroptimists, and an enthusiastic golfer at Kamloops Golf and Country Club.
Nonie and Wilbur relocated to Kamloops Seniors Village in 2015. The family wishes to thank the staff at KSV for their support and kindness to our parents these many years. We are also particularly grateful to Dr. Newmarch for his empathy and guidance in her final days. Thank you as well to the staff of Five South, RIH.
Nonie is pre-deceased by her husband Wilbur (2022), her sister Gloria (2014), her mother Elsie (1996), and her father Horace (1955). We will remember our Mom and Nana privately at Hillside Cemetery. If friends would like to honour Nonie’s memory with a donation, please consider the Kamloops Hospice Association. Details are on their website.
