With hearts full of love and gratitude, we honor the blessed life of Fredlyn Bastatas (Sacatropez), who was born in Honolulu, Hawai‘i on April 3, 1954, and peacefully commended her spirit into the hands of our Lord through Christ on February 8, 2026, at home in Kāne‘ohe, surrounded by the family she cherished so deeply.
Fredlyn is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Vincente R. Bastatas, and precious children: Cupie M. Negron (Cleoffe); Sheldon G. Bastatas (Lisa); Zachary G. Bastatas (Christina); Duke K. Bastatas (Toni-Jen); Priscilla “Maka” Caluya (Daniel); Kimberly “Mokihana” Bastatas; and Veronica Kahanu (‘Ali’iōlani); 28 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren who were each a source of immense pride and joy. She is lovingly remembered by her siblings Joyce Sacatropez; Preston Sacatropez (Lisa); and Georgia Ann Hernandez (Rodney) and now joins in eternal rest her parents, Frederico Sacatropez Sr. and Georgia (Bascon) Sacatropez, and her younger brother, Frederico Sacatropez II.
Known affectionately as “Aunty Teedah,” Fredlyn carried a presence that blended strength, humor, and deep compassion. Her nieces and nephews spoke her name with affection and respect, knowing she was someone who showed up—with love, with guidance, and with a fierce loyalty that never wavered!
A woman of remarkable determination, Fredlyn helped establish the Keahiakahoe Canoe Club, becoming part of a legacy rooted in community, culture, and the ocean she respected. After graduating college, she earned her beautician’s license at Connie Gayle Beauty Salon, beginning a journey defined by reinvention and courage. She later broke barriers by becoming the first and only woman in her Commercial Driver’s License class to graduate—an achievement she carried with quiet pride. She went on to drive for Tugman Steel Inc., proving once again that no challenge was too great for her!
Her work ethic was unmatched. She managed the Texaco storefront across from the Hygienic Store, then later pursued a new calling in healthcare. In 2001, she graduated from the Med Assist School of Hawai‘i and went on to serve as a Certified Medical Assistant at Aloha Nursing & Rehab Centre, and later as an Office Clerk at Zippy’s Kāne‘ohe. In every role, she brought kindness, diligence, and a heart for helping others.
Above all, Fredlyn lived her life grounded in faith. With a mother’s devotion, she prepared her children to receive the Sacrament of Baptism and nurtured their spiritual formation with love and intention. She further strengthened her Catholic faith by serving in ministry at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Waikāne. The Church was not merely a place of worship for her, but a true spiritual home where she faithfully attended Mass, offered quiet prayers, and entrusted her joys and sorrows to the Lord. Her enduring devotion reflected the strong Catholic foundation instilled in her by her parents and humbly carried forward throughout her life.
To honor Fredlyn’s remarkable life and faith, family and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass Service to be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at St. Ann Church in Kāne‘ohe at 10:30 a.m., with inurnment to follow immediately.
Visitation will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m.
