Mrs Roswitha B. Swain, also known as Rose, was born in Berlin Germany on October 20, 1937 to Werner Guenter Heinz Freudenreich and Erna Elfriede Hedwignee’ Utz. She was the youngest of two siblings and had a very close relationship with her brother Klaus. Like her nickname, Rose was her favorite flower and purple was her favorite color.
Roswitha moved from Berlin Germany to Frankfurt Germany after graduating from her trade school in the fur coat industry. She was one of the top fur coat seamstresses in her trade school and was considered to be an expert seamstress in the fur coat industry.
It was while she was in Frankfurt Germany, that Roswitha met the love of her life, her husband, James R. Swain. They were married in Germany on November 15, 1958. Roswitha left Germany, crossed two oceans and came to America to be with her husband. When she arrived in America, Roswitha spoke very little English and communicated with her husband in German. She made it her mission and was determined to learn the English language, so every day she would listen to the American radio and television stations then would have her husband practice with her when he came home from work.
Roswitha also was a loving and caring mother. Roswitha and her husband James brought forth five children, three boys and two girls, James Jr., Angela, Craig, Nancy and Aaron. Her family was her top priority and she made sure that everyone was well taken care of and lacked nothing. She was also a Christian and Woman of God, who made sure that her children were brought up in the church and covered them spiritually with her prayers.
When she was younger, Roswitha loved bowling. She took part in a weekly women’s bowling league and was a pretty good bowler. She also was part of a women’s club called the Gala Elites, that would hold social events/fund raisers to raise money to help others in need. She later went on to Lanakila Baptist Bible College and earned her teacher certification in Biblical Studies. Roswitha loved God and was a long-standing member of the City of Refuge Christian Church, where she was affectionately known as Mother Swain.
Roswitha B. Swain transitioned life as we know it, to be in the presence of our Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 17, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Swain, her son Craig R. Swain, her parents Werner Guenter Heinz Freudenreich and Erna Elfriede Hedwignee’ Utz.
