Barbara Ann Davenport of Kansas City, KS passed away May 10th, 2020.
Barbara was the first of four daughters born to Leroy and Theda Pierce in Des Moines, Iowa on November 7th, 1940. She was the loving mother of four children: the late Lori Davenport, Vince (Chanpheng) Davenport, Randall Davenport, and Sean (Theda) Davenport.
As Barbara’s family finds comfort in reminiscing on her life together, a few special memories rise to the top.
Nobody in Barbara’s extended family had a satisfactory birthday until they received her call and heard her special rendition of Happy Birthday. She loved singing, and besides Happy Birthday, everyone in her family will remember her performing her favorite song at holiday gatherings - Harper Valley P.T.A.
Barbara’s family will also remember her passion for math and science. She dedicated her free time to exploring new number theories. Barbara saw connections in everything, from complex prime numbers to family birthdates. She firmly believed that you were never too old to accomplish your dreams, graduating from Iowa State University in her fifties.
Her crowning achievement was her large family, and she cherished her various familial roles. She always had time to talk, listen, and boost the spirits and self-esteem of her loved ones. Her grandchildren will remember her fondly as a grandmother who never passed judgement and was so proud of their accomplishments, no matter how small.
Loved as much for her idiosyncrasies as for her compassion, she was truly a singular human being. Her quirks never failed to put a smile on one’s face. Barbara will be greatly missed by her children, 11 grandchildren, a long and growing list of great-grandchildren, and her sisters, Margie and Joanie. She was predeceased by her sister, Enie.
