Barbara E Placke

Barbara Ellen Placke, 78, of Basehor, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2015. Mrs. Placke was born December 27, 1936 in Kansas City, Kansas to Karl and Vivian (née Cassill) Smith. She was the oldest of 3 children.

After graduating from Bishop Ward High School, Barbara met the love of her life, Edward H. Placke and they were wed in 1956. To this union was born 3 daughters: Debbie, Sandy, and Lisa.

Barbara enjoyed square dancing, country music, and traveling; together with her husband she travelled throughout the United States and enjoyed several cruises! Known for her wicked sense of humor, Barbara had a true gift for making people laugh and smile. She was a loving person who especially adored her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her pets.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 59 years, Edward Placke; her children: Debbie (Joe) Equels, Sandy Placke, and Lisa Placke; grandchildren: Nicci (Brad) Gudmen, Zack (Roxanne) Estes, Shelby (Tyler) Hatcher, and Chelsea Estes; great grandchildren Michael and Aubrey Estes; brother Gary Smith; sister Judy Pope, and dogs: Cooper, Tripp, Sophie, and Khaleesi. Barbara will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Visitation will be at the Highland Park Funeral Home, 4101 State Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas 66102 on Thursday, October 22, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Graveside services will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 701 N. 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112 on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mausoleum.
