Betty J. Burgess

Betty passed away on March 16, 2017. Funeral services will be at 11:00a.m., Friday, March 24th at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS 66112, visitation will precede the service from 10:00-11:00a.m. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Betty was born Sept. 15, 1928 to parents, Mildred & Tony Lewallen. Her husband, Ralph preceded her in death in 1998. She also had a sister, Ruth Clark, brother, Vernon, niece, Linda Hart, and son-in-law, William Merrion, who also preceded her in death.

She graduated from Wyandotte High School, KCK in 1946. Betty lived in the Kansas City area until she married Ralph. He was in the Air Force, so they traveled different places and then came home to live in KC. Ralph and Betty were married 43 years.

Survivors include daughters, Diana Merrion of Leawood, and Kathy Dye and her husband John of Overland Park; four grandchildren, Sean Merrion and his wife Samantha, Erik Dye, Alex Dye, and Tori Dye; two great-grandchildren, Jay and Emily Merrion; nephew, Terry Clark, as well as other relatives and friends.

Betty was an avid sports fan and loyal supporter of the KC Chiefs, KC Royals, KU Basketball, and tennis. She loved playing Bingo and was known as a big winner at Brookdale Assisted Living, where she spent her final six years. The family wants to thank the Brookdale and Hospice staff for their support and caring.
