Betty Lea Houchin, 94, Basehor, Kansas passed away October 31, 2021 at her home with her family by her side. A funeral service for Betty will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Stony Point Baptist Church, 7938 Barnett Ave., Kansas City, KS. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, also at the church. A graveside service will be immediately following in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Stony Point Baptist Church.
Betty was born on January 29, 1927 in Kansas City, Kansas to Albert Drewitske and Lillie (Pemberton) Knight. She graduated from Turner High School, where she was a cheerleader and met her future husband, Robert Houchin.
Betty and Robert were married on September 2, 1945 in Kansas City, Kansas. In 1957, Betty and Robert started Stony Point Baptist Church in their home and soon after transitioned to the existing church.
Together they had four children, and Betty was delighted to be able to stay home with them along with teaching Bible Study, Sunday School, was church secretary, along with many other ministries.
Betty was preceded in passing by her husband of 72 years, Robert; and son, Robert Mark.
Survivors include her daughter, Andrea Walker and spouse Stuart of Indiana and their children, Lisa Walker Hug and spouse David, and Nathaniel Walker and partner James; her daughter, Alison Petterson and spouse Tim of KCK and their children, Rob Crosthwait and spouse Christina, Amy Powers and spouse Andy, and Ashley Petterson; her son, David Houchin and spouse Nancy of Robbinsville, NC and their children, Brian Houchin, Lynn Salzman and spouse Todd, Regan Houchin, Jeremy Meyer and spouse Jessica, Jackie Cox and spouse Eric, and Joseph Meyer; as well as thirteen great-grandchildren, Gavin Crosthwait, Taylar Powers, Drew Powers, Blake Powers, Elizabeth Salzman, Benjamin Salzman, Evelyn Salzman, Grace Meyer, Cody Meyer, James Meyer, Leigha Cox, Katie Cox, and Jamin Cox, and other relatives and friends.
