Blanche Turner, 84, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away Saturday, December 14th at home. A visitation will be held Friday, December 20th from 10:00-11:00 AM with funeral service to follow at 11:00 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Blanche was born June 21, 1929, on the hottest and longest day of the year she like to remind us. She married James Earl Turner on August 1, 1946. 4 years later she had a son, James Raymond Turner, then 4 years later daughter Roberta 'Bobbi' Sue Leonard was born. As time went by they and their spouses brought to her five grandchildren: Abigail, Paula, Christi, Dena and Jimmy, as well as two step-grandchildren Shannen and Samantha. Those grandkids then gave Blanche 20 great-grandchildren.
She was a strong woman who lived such a full life; she couldn't help but touch many people. Some might have known her as their hairdresser, as she ran a beauty shop in Armourdale for multiple years before moving the business to her home and continuing the salon for many more years. She also was a member of the Sunflower CB Club along with her husband 'Red' making many more friendships through the years. Together they participated in multiple charity events giving to Jerry Lewis’s MDS Kids Telethons. As many may also know, Blanche was an avid quilter, spending numerous hours making hand crafted and decorative quilts for friends and family as well as many years making quilts for the joy of donating them to local area hospitals. She was a long time member of the Kansas City Quilt Guild and the Sunflower Quilters. She loved quilting so much even her husband of 61 years, 'Red', whom she laid to rest in 2007, started quilting, too. Through all the years and all the kids, Blanche's home was the place to meet for holidays and events, baby showers, family gatherings and even weddings. It is the memories of all these moments that we all should hold dear. This was a life well lived, and a woman well loved.
Fond memories and condolences for Blanche may be left at www.chapelhill-butler.com, as arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112.
