

Cathleen Mendon Cooper, 87, of Kansas City, Missouri, formerly of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away July 9, 2012 at Newmark Care Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 13 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1086 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas. Visitation will be from 10-11 at the Church. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Cathleen was born August 30, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri to Walter James Mendon, Sr. and Bernadine (Murray) Mendon. She graduated from Ward High School in 1942. Cathleen was a volunteer for the Red Cross during the ’53 flood and was a lifetime blood donor. She moved to Atlanta and worked for Interstate Johnson Lane for 35 years until her retirement at the age of 76. Cathleen was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and sang in Sweet Adelines from 1976-1991. Singing and reading were two of her greatest passions. She also loved cats and she had a hard time passing by a stray cat without taking it home to nurture it. Cathleen loved her family more than anything and moved back to the Kansas City area in 2003 to be closer to them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son William Edmund Stubbs, daughter Nancy Donaldson, brother Walter James Mendon, Jr., sister Patricia McDonald and her special friend Clyde Craft.
Cathleen is survived by her daughter Karen Leaf of Seattle, Washington; granddaughters Stephenie Standish of Stuart, Florida, Kimberly (Jason) Trent of Kansas City, Missouri, Rebecca Winters, and Elizabeth Soberg, Tracey Mosholder & her husband & family of Anchorage, Alaska and Gina Gothe Jackson & her husband & family of Steilacoom, Washington; great-granddaughters Zoe Trent, Gillian Trent, Ella Rose Trent, Sydney Winters and Shelby Winters; sister Bernadine Stanley of Kansas City, Missouri and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In honor of Cathleen, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to finalize Cathleen's commemorative marker.
