My wife, Christine Davis, has just told me the story of how her son, Adam Hines, used to go to visit Chuck, "all the time" when he was from his youth to Chuck's retirement. At the time, the "shop" was the emergency number for Adam while he in school here in the district (from infancy through Noble Prentis to Sumner). They both have such fond memories of those men and women...and those days. And, I am told, Adam, in spite of the "scary freight elevator", always looked forward to the visits. 
Oh, by-the-way, Adam is a Professional Locksmith in Wichita, KS. 
Chuck will be missed.

Our condolences to the whole family.  He was a good man. Randy, I don't get out much anymore more with my walker, so I didn't get to the wake.  Hope you and your family are doing well.

Was it time for Chuck to go? Apparently God thought so. We know that he is in Heaven with God and his loved ones. Mary as I was told, a part of you is already in Heaven as he took a piece of your heart with him. He will be missed by so many and remembered by even more.

     My sympathy and Prayers are with you Aunt Mary and all my Nieces and Nephews at this moment of mourning. May God Bless all with peace during this time of healing.

    Uncle Charles had a very special place in my Heart because of his kind nature and manner. You might remember my cornering him at the last funeral he and I attended together. I needed to have a quite moment alone with him to tell him personally what he had done for me many years ago as a ball coach. I was new to baseball and very nervous and had no confidence in myself. I will always have the memory of him standing behind the home plate fence coaching me as the pitcher was pitching to me. I was too scared to hit the ball time and time again. Uncle Chuck told me to calm down and watch the ball all the way into the plate and when it gets over the plate just swing, but never take your eyes off the ball. Such a simple suggestion but it worked in more ways than one. Not only did I start hitting the ball with consistency but I found confidence growing inside me each time I stepped into the box. This one simple lesson and success today seems so small
but as a young boy at the time for me it was monumental and life changing. Uncle Chuck had a way of talking to you in this calm and kind manner that made you believe what he was saying was true. He made you feel that you could accomplish the task at hand. That’s what he did for me.

     

     That is why I had to find him to talk to him alone and tell him what he had done for me so many years ago and also tell him that I loved him.

   I am not sure what part of him or his life that I respected the most, the base ball coach, or the great man he became as a result of the loss of the use of his legs. For me he is a model of how I could only hope to be half the caliber of man in facing life on life’s terms with a smile upon my face.

    For me he may be gone but shall never, ever be forgotten.

God Bless all those who are grieving. But let us try to ease the pain knowing he is in the promised Kingdom with God the Father, Amen.

  I just want to let you guys know I am very sorry for the loss of your father and also tell you how much I liked and respected him.  
  I told you the story before but I don't know how many times your dad saved me when I was serving at CTK by helping me get the incense lit.  He was always very nice to me and I really didn't know who he was until later in life when I got to know all the Shriver brothers.
  Know that my thoughts and prayers are with my Shriver golfing buddies and all of the family at this time.

Mary and Family: I am so sorry to hear about Chuck's passing.  He was such a great guy and a pleasure to be around.  When I worked at the shop I used to go up to talk to him and even if I was having a bad day would come away feeling much better and counting my blessings.  He will be missed by many.  But we know that he is now at home with his Lord and I'll bet he has a big smile on his face and walking all over the place.  There will certainly be a Happy Renion some day.
