Cheri was a 1971 graduate of Turner High School and then attended Johnson County Community College for a short period. In June of 1972, Cheri married Mark Williams and relocated to Austin, Minnesota, starting a family shortly thereafter. She was blessed with two precocious boys that kept her busy through their growing years. Cheri had an innate characteristic to be a caregiver. When her father became ill, she didn’t hesitate to step in and help her mother with his many needs during his final days. When her sister went through ovarian cancer, she was there every step of the way, spending several days a week with her throughout her treatments. Cheri even extended that caregiving nature to animals, providing a home to many rescues through the years. Cheri was a social butterfly and jumped at any opportunity to attend a gathering. She had such a warm, outgoing personality, she was immediately loved by all who met her. Working for the City of Mission, Kansas for many years, she even volunteered as Mrs.Claus at their annual holiday party, loving the interactions with all the children. In her later years she loved to travel with friends and couldn’t wait to share their shenanigans when she returned. Cheri loved to laugh and her friends always lifted her spirits. Cheri also maintained a lifelong friendship with many of her High School friends, meeting up at least on an annual basis. Her light-hearted spirit and genuine kindness was felt by all who knew her.
Cheri is preceded in death by her husband, Mark Williams and son, Kyle Williams and survived by son, Mike Williams, grandsons, Kelton Williams, Taylor Kirk-Williams and Logan Williams, sister, Vikki Nickerson and 94 year old mother, Juanita Elrod.
Placement of ashes will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, KS 66112 on June 8, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.
