We "hosted" Dan and Sarah, my sister, on their stay along the California coast. I put that in quotes since they didn't actually stay with us, but I don't blame them a bit. A vacation in Riverside, versus Santa Monica, well, an easy choice! So we shared local knowledge, met a couple times for fun events or meals, but otherwise left them to roll up and down Pacific Coast Highway to their hearts' content. I was so glad to see Dan and Sarah enjoying themselves.

Dan was a great brother-in-law. He really impressed me with how cared about and became involved with all his communities: at school, the district, after hours and after retirement, plus his businesses. My wife and I found him good company when he and Sarah visited and took great care of us when we visited them. He was very active, but somehow still stayed low key and relaxed. He also had more magnets than anyone!

I met Dan my first day at Rushton School.  He came in that first day to make sure that I had everything that I needed to be comfortable there.  He took great pride in his work and both kids and staff greatly appreciated him. I can't remember how many times over the years we came out after school to find the snow and ice scraped off of our cars.

It didn't take long for me to consider Dan a good friend as well as a co-worker.  I always enjoyed chatting with him before school while he was eating his bowl of Cheerios or sitting with him at lunch. I knew that when spring rolled around I would be hearing about his latest motorcycle adventures.

Unfortunately, after I left Rushton , I only saw him a few more times. Dan was a good man and I'm glad that he was a part of my life.

I am so sorry to hear of Dan's passing he was a great person would do anything for anyone he was a great neighbor and friend  we  will  miss him. 

I’m sorry to hear about Dan’s passing . Even though I hadn’t seen him in  years  I can  vividly recall  the  fun times we had growing up together. Whether it was watching him  work with his pigeons or hunting for turtles together,  We had some great times running our extended neighborhood, sometimes with friends like Steve Springer and Frank Mattis , sometimes just Danny and myself .
Wow hadn’t thought about that in some time

I had the privilege of working with Dan at Rushton Elementary for 12 years.  He was an amazing man who treasured the building he maintained meticulously and the children he impacted daily.  His dry wit and mischevious smile will always be a bright spot in my memories of my years at Rushton.  

We had many conversations about his younger years growing up in KCK since my husband was born in 1961 and grew up in the Turner area.  Dan had many great stories to share, and we laughed over the kinds of shenanigans those of us from that era remember.  

His love of Sarah, his family, Cooper, and Taco Tuesdays were all evident from the pride and pleasure he took in regaling me with anecdotes about them.  He could be gregarious as well as reserved, and he always took pleasure in helping students and serving as a role model and mentor whenever he could.  He was excited about continuing to volunteer at Rushton after his retirement, and it was a treat to see his face when he visited.

He will be remembered by hundreds, perhaps thousands, of students whose lives he touched.  There is no greater legacy than that.  He will be missed. 

I am so sorry to hear of Dan’s passing at such a young age.  I considered him a little brother for years as I was married  very young to his brother Dave and spent a lot of my teenage years at their home.  We spent a lot of time together in the younger days. He was a sweetheart. He would continue to visit his niece Shelly  when she was little after his brother and I divorced. He was a dear to keep in touch . It meant a lot to her. 
RIP Dan you were a sweetheart I’m sure you’ll be missed wish you could of got to know her better and met her children. Darn it.

It's been truely a pleasure knowing Dan and spending the great time we had togeather helping with lawnmowing , takeing care of his pigeons and just comeing over to visit dan and talking with him ive known dan to be a great kind and truely wonderful guy he would just about do anything for you when you needed help on something.  He will be truely missed by me and my family your friend Eddie Lemmon.

From all of us custodian here at SMSD  512  we all are going to miss you . I covered for you when ever they call me and it was great knowing you as a coworker and I still can’t believe your gone  we will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers  miss you Dan Lemmon your friend Victoria Saylors
